Colonoscopy (Diagnostic & Therapeutic)

Colonoscopy is a procedure where in a flexible fibre-optic instrument is inserted through the anus for examination of the colon. The procedure is carried out either for diagnostic purpose or therapeutic purpose depending upon the requirement, symptoms and disease seen in the patient. It is an endoscopic examination of the large bowel and the distal part of the small bowel. We have a team of well trained colonoscopists who perform the surgical procedure with precision. In some cases, the diagnostic colonoscopy can be converted to a therapeutic based on the clinical findings and the procedure that is to be performed.

    Colonoscopy is performed in cases of gastrointestinal hemorrhage, unexplained changes in the bowel habits malignancy or even in cases of inflammatory bowel disease. A diagnostic colonoscopy is done only for diagnosis of a particular pre existing condition or for screening of a tumor and confirming malignancy or for post operative follows up.

    In case of a therapeutic colonoscopy, it is most commonly performed in case of hemostasis, and ablation or removal of benign and malignant diseases, decompression and recanalization of obstructed or dilated bowel and also extraction of the foreign body materials and the method is fast replaced the traditional methods of surgical procedures used to treat colon diseases.

    The technique is minimally invasive, less painful and has a faster recovery rate as compared to any other traditional method.
