Laparoscopic Prolaspse Repair

Prolapse, pelvic or vaginal does not lead to serious illness but causes discomfort in women, often leading to emotional and physiological turbulences. Surgical repair of this prolapse can however be performed by performing laparoscopic surgery. Laparoscopic prolapse repair has shown positive results in several women till date and is a minimally invasive procedure that ensures faster healing and also brings about emotional and physiological stability. The process is performed through abdominal incisions to enable examination and treatment using a laparoscope. Our expert laparoscopic surgeons and efficient team of other specialist doctors perform critical repair surgeries with maximum success rates.

More About Surgical Prolapse Repair

Lately, several new developments and research is being done concerning surgical prolapse repair and it is undergoing re evaluation by means of MRI for recognising and defining the specific areas of muscle damage in the pelvis and supporting tissues that leads to prolapse and incontinence. The major goal of laparoscopic prolapse repair surgeries to resuspend the vagina and associated pelvic organs by means of keyhole incisions and restore its health and functionality. There are three variants of prolapse surgery:

Sacrocolpopexy

Sacrocolpopexy is considered to be the most standard treatment method for pelvic organ prolapse repair. It is a procedure to correct prolapse of the vaginal vault (top of the vagina) in women who have had a previous hysterectomy. The surgery is designed to restore the vagina to its normal position and function. A variation of this surgery called sacrohysteropexy corrects prolapse of the uterus.

Pectopexy

This is another method of laparoscopic prolapse repair which is done for apical prolapse of the uterus or the vagina and involves inserting a mesh to hold the uterus or the top of the vagina in place.

Lateral Suspension

The technique of lateral suspension involves using a cross mesh to treat vaginal vault and is an alternative to sacral colpopexy. It is a safe, simpler process with fewer intraoperative and postoperative complications.
